About the 1 minute test
One minute is short enough to repeat a few times and long enough to give a meaningful score. It is the best place to start.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good score on a 1 minute typing test?
Around 40 WPM is average. 50–60 WPM is solid for office work and 65–75 WPM is professional level, with at least 95% accuracy.
How is WPM calculated?
WPM = correct characters (including spaces) ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. One word counts as five characters, so 300 correct characters in one minute is 60 WPM.
Do mistakes lower my WPM?
Words with a mistake do not count toward your WPM, and they lower your accuracy. Type accurately first and speed follows.
