About the 3 minute test
Over three minutes a lucky burst matters less and endurance matters more, so many people score a little lower than on a 1 minute test.
Frequently asked questions
Why take a 3 minute typing test instead of 1 minute?
It gives a steadier result. A single fast minute can flatter your speed, while three minutes shows what you can keep up.
How is WPM calculated?
WPM = correct characters (including spaces) ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. One word counts as five characters, so 300 correct characters in one minute is 60 WPM.
Is a 3 minute typing test used for jobs?
Some employers use timed tests of one to five minutes. Check the requirement in the job post, and practice with the same length.
